The primary case study follows a mechanical product development team through their -7month experiment of using Scrum. Use the search function to search amongst programmes at Chalmers. In the autumn 2007, Chalmers University of Technology, Göteborg, Sweden, will launch 44 new Master’s programmes, as a step in the Bologna process. The Master’s programme in Product Development, one of these programmes, aims to provide an environment and course syllabus that gives students the knowledge, skills and attitudes to act efficiently within global product developing organizations. The conclusion is that visual planning constitutes a method that is useful for product development teams that need efficient ways of communicating and coordinating team work. This paper investigates the benefits and limitations of lean visual planning at four technology-based companies.

The aim of this research is to significantly contribute to a new platform element description approach that, in a PLM environment, will provide a ground for reuse of assets in all product and production system development phases. This report is the result of the final course within the master’s programme in product development at Chalmers University of Technology.
